Publiseer helps independent African writers, musicians, and filmmakers, from low-income communities, earn above the minimum wage and live above the poverty line from the sales of their works. The word 'Publiseer'​ is a pun on the word 'publisher'​, and it also means 'publish'​ in Afrikaans, a language spoken in Southern Africa.
